The Final Days Of Dr Who -How It Was Killed Off

This is a rather interesting 40 minutes+ documentary on the final days of Sylvester McCoy's Dr Who. I like the fact that no one will actually name Michael Grade as the man who was determined to kill off Dr Who. It was a proud boast of his that he had done so. There is a You Tube video of the vile little snob saying just this. Grade, of course, jumped from BBC  to ITV to Channel 4 all hoping for success with him but all he has left is disaster.

Anyway, the link will not allow me to post the video so...

And here is the documentary -thanks to Subzero for posting it first and my boredom for making me watch it!!

  1. I've seen it (I think it's on the 'Dr. Who: Survival' DVD.)Grade seems to think he did us all a favour by killing the BBC's biggest programme cash cow. He seems not to realise that if he thought it wasn't working as Programme Controller... it was his fault! Since it's an even bigger success now, that rather shows up what a poor business man he is.

  2. Yeah, Room 101 he says he "hates" and "despises" science fiction. To show what a two faced nothing he is I ought to point out that when they announced Ecclestone was to be the Dr in a new Dr Who series he laughed at it. When the ratings showed it was a HUGE success he openly congratulated the team on returning such a great show to TV.
His father was the TRUE talent in that family -the TV Christmas specials of comedy, etc., were his idea. He was asked why bother doing Christmas specials? He responded that not everyone was partying and it was a "thank you" to the viewers for a year of loyalty. How tv has changed!
