HOLY GOOD n PLENTY!!! Britain's least known Underground cartoonist, Lee James Turnock, opens his dirty mac to unleash a bevy of smutty toons, deft parodies, old chestnuts, and blistering satire! A 'fun bag' indeed! ADULTS ONLY!!!

Star of 1970s British porno film Flesh Gordon. Author of erotic best-seller "What Lies Behind The Velvet Curtain".  Cult director of movies Bang Back Hill, Death of a Pink Oboe Player.  Possessor of a bigger schlong than Ron Jeremy. None of these applies to Lee James Turnock.

In this day and age, and with the long history of Underground Comix -Robert Crumb, Spain Rodriguez and many, many others now being toasted as pioneers and great comic creators, WHY is it that there are still people who see a cover like this and scream foul abuse at the creator for being some perverted misogynistic scumbag?

Yes, Turnock gets the abuse -which is why his comix get published in Canada and he creates in relative obscurity in his home country.

Again, it does say "Adults Only" so what do you expect when you pick up an Underground Comix with that printed on the cover?  Firstly, a doctor with a stephoscope who may not be a real doctor. then some really -REALLY- corny old jokes....actually, quite funny ones but I am very old....and I may have been that man following her (buy a copy to see what I mean).

There is some lovely art in here with lots of fine inking  -- it works well with "Sammy Shanks The Beloved Entertainer"  and a slighter cleaner style of inking works well with "The Kranky Gang Bang" and "Saucy".  The latter style good enough that, in the UKs hey-day of weekly comics, I think Turnock could haved worked for either Thomson or Fleetway.

Turnock likes "well built" women -Crumb liked women with big butts and legs. Manara is obsessed with drawing vaginas. So what?  Turnock and Crumb, rather like Los Bros Hernandez, are drawing more "natural" women --Gilbert Hernandez draws "well endowed" women (such as "Luba", "Fritz" and so on) but are they harangued from pillar to post as perverts?  So why is Turnock?

But I forget the British and Americans like to keep their sex and breasts confined to trawling internet porn sites in private while assuming the moral high ground against underground comix.

Do any of the critics actually politely communicate with Turnock to see what the creator is like before name-calling? No.

But I would say that if you like Undergrounds, are over 18/21 or whatever your nation cites as being of adult age, and a laugh then buy a copy of this and Turnock's other work.  It really is good. I'm popping a copy through the vicarage letterbox later.

BUY BUY BUY BUY!

  1. Fantastic review, Terry! Lee certainly deserves all the accolades he can get!

One little thing: I'm actually a Canadian publisher, not US.
